"Love to Win or Hate to Lose: A Reflection on Perspective and Growth"
A simple yet powerful phrase often ignites lively discussions in personal and professional development: Do you "Love to Win" or "Hate to Lose?"
I first encountered this phrase from a nonprofit board member who proposed it as an interview question for accounting job applicants. The idea was to seek someone cautious and error-minimizing. The concept intrigued me, and I began discussing it with others.
In my life, my response depended on the context. When attempting new things, I didn't dwell on failure. However, "Hate to Lose" impacted my attitude toward a practiced personal skill or ability. This became apparent to me on the golf course. I desired to compete but felt deeply embarrassed by a poor performance. Negative thoughts about my shortcomings consumed me.
Fortunately for me, my golf partner, Ann Dickey, who was an inspiring friend, mother, and coach, embraced and championed the “Love to Win” attitude. Ann embodied the spirit of perseverance, sportsmanship, and unwavering dedication. She believed in striving for excellence while supporting everyone around her. As Club Champion multiple times, she viewed setbacks as essential to growth and success, focusing on the lessons they offered.
Ann faced terminal cancer with the same determination and grit. Although she's no longer with us, her legacy lives on in our hearts, and her words remind us of the importance of love, determination, and commitment. Read Ann's Story at https://www.caringbridge.org/resources/melanoma-story.
Our Saltie Rose Performance Socks convey the “Love to Win” message of positivity. Ann would have loved Pickleball. In her honor, Saltie Rose dedicates a portion of each pair of our socks proceeds to women's health research.
Saltie Rose is more than a brand; it's a community.
